Care & support
West Court uses a person-centred approach with a Gentle Care philosophy for residents with dementia, and offers comfort care for residents at the end of life.
The long-term care home is accredited by Accreditation Canada, and publicly subsidized care is charged as a monthly rate based on income after an assessment by the local health authority.
Assisted living provides medication management, care assistance and a 24-hour on-site response for emergencies.
The Day Program for Older Adults offers personal care, nurse-led health monitoring, art and music therapy, lunch and a morning snack, and caregiver support including respite.
The long-term care at home program combines remote care monitoring technology with one-week respite stays every six weeks in dedicated respite suites in The Tides building.
Rooms & living spaces
West Court private suites are approximately 200 sq. ft. with an ensuite sink and toilet, a call bell, and room for personal decorations and some furnishings such as a TV or favorite chair.
The Tides offers Affordable Market Rent one-bedroom suites in partnership with BC Housing, for households with low to moderate incomes. Suites are air conditioned, with laundry rooms on each floor, two amenity spaces and a communal terrace and decks.
Everyday life
A dedicated Recreation Coordinator leads recreational programs for assisted living residents, and long-term care residents take part in activities.
The KinVillage Community Centre is open to everyone, not only residents.
Accessibility
Smoking is not allowed inside West Court, visiting pets are welcome but cannot live in the suites, and electric wheelchairs and scooters are not permitted inside the building.
Location & getting around
The Day Program at 5410 10 Avenue has free parking in undesignated spots and public transit nearby, and travel assistance to the program is available through HandyDART.
