Search description

Yaletown House is a non-profit long-term care home with person-centred care and programs seven days a week.

How does admission to Yaletown House work?

Vancouver Coastal Health manages access to long-term care, and Yaletown House does not keep its own waitlist. The first step is to contact Central Intake, or the hospital transitional care team if the person is in hospital.

How are room and food charges determined?

Care is subsidized under the Home and Community Care Program. Residents pay a monthly fee toward food and room costs, based on yearly income. The fee begins on admission and is due at the start of each month.

Care & support

The interdisciplinary team includes nursing, recreation, dietary, nutrition, social work, building services, administration and management.

Care & support

Nursing staff include registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and care aides. An RN is on duty 24/7; staffing ratios vary by unit and shift according to residents’ care needs.

Care & support

In-house services for residents who need assistance include dentistry, podiatry, pharmacy, optometry, physiotherapy, concession and hairdressing. Laundry and housekeeping staff care for residents’ belongings and the cleanliness of the home.

Rooms & living spaces

All resident rooms are private, furnished and have en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to bring personal items from home to decorate their rooms.

Everyday life

The Manager of Social Work and Therapeutic Services is available to residents and families through pre-admission, admission, residency and discharge, with support for social, emotional or financial concerns.

Everyday life

Reception and accounting staff help residents and families maintain in-house trust accounts and make pre-authorized user-fee payments.

Dining & meals

Cooks prepare meals in-house, dietary aides serve in the dining room, and a registered dietitian is on site for meal planning. Residents can choose an alternate option at each meal.

Dining & meals

Tea, coffee and snacks are available at set times. Family and friends may purchase a ticket from reception to join residents at the guest table during a meal.

Activities & connection

Programs run seven days a week and include exercise, gardening, crafts, bus trips, matinees, bowling, bingo, card games, baking, sewing, knitting and pet visits.

Activities & connection

Music therapy takes place five days a week in large and small groups. Activities include walking to music, hand bell choir, evening sing-along and musical expression.

Activities & connection

Year-round horticulture therapy includes growing plants from seeds, tending flower beds and other plant activities. A local florist donates cut flowers weekly for residents to make bouquets.
