About this community
Mary Ryder Home is an IRTS-model (Intensive Residential Treatment Setting) community for older women living with mental illness, providing supportive housing and mental health services with 24-hour service. The home was founded in 1930 to care for vulnerable women and is now a nonprofit. It is not a residential care facility or skilled nursing facility. Each woman has her own room with a bathroom, and meals are prepared on site and eaten in the dining room.

Care & support
The team provides personalized therapeutic support, assistance with daily living skills, and connections to mental and physical health care, based on each resident's needs and goals.
Staff are trained to care for seniors and people with severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and the home provides medication administration and help coordinating physical health care.
The care team stores and administers each woman's prescribed medicine, so residents do not have to refill prescriptions or remember when to take medication.
The program emphasizes rehabilitation and skill-building so each woman can live as independently as possible while her dignity is preserved.
Residents must be Medicaid recipients. Costs of occupancy, including rent, dietary, personal care and behavioral health care, are covered through the resident's SSI and SSA benefits.
Rooms & living spaces
Each woman has her own room with a double bed, a dresser and a Jack-and-Jill bathroom.
Everyday life
Visitors are welcome in the common areas with approval from residents, as are pre-scheduled and vetted volunteers.
A common area is available to watch TV, work on crafts and socialize with other residents.
Dining & meals
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared by the home's team and eaten in the dining room.
Activities & connection
The home schedules many field trips and outings, such as picking apples, visiting a new restaurant, shopping and playing bingo. Many residents also attend other day programs.
