Extendicare Longfields Manor Long-Term Care Home

The home provides long-term care for people who can no longer be cared for at home or in assisted living, with individualized care plans developed with families.

The team includes registered nurses, registered practical nurses or licensed practical nurses, personal support workers, social workers, physicians and registered dietitians.

Staff include specialists in wound care, continence care, end of life care, chronic disease management and dementia care.

The home works with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, dentists, podiatrists and beauticians; additional fees may apply for some of these services.

Residents pay an accommodation fee based on room type. Choices include private rooms and shared rooms, which may be semi-private, basic or standard.

In shared rooms, residents are matched by gender and, where possible, by similar interests and compatible routines.

In warmer months the home offers in-room air conditioning to every resident, subject to individual preferences, along with designated air-conditioned cooling areas.

Residents are welcomed with a meeting with the primary caregiver, introductions to department heads, welcome baskets, a Guardian Angel program and a friendship social for new residents.

Families can take part through a family function space, a social worker-supported group lunch for family members, monthly newsletters, memorial services and an open-door policy.

Visitors are welcome seven days a week with no specific visiting hours. Residents who are able are encouraged to go on outings and must sign out when they leave.

Dietary services are provided by cooks, including certified Red Seal chefs, dietary aides and registered dietitians.

Activities include music programs for residents with dementia, worship services, exercise classes and visits with volunteers.

Community connections include student placements, community service, a Family Fun Day, an intergenerational program, a city food drive and holiday activities.

The home is at 330 Beatrice Dr in Nepean, Ontario, and is open to visitors and inquiries from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., seven days a week.
