Hathaway Manor Extended Care

Long-term care is for residents who need round-the-clock support, with attention to quality of life, companionship, independence and an active lifestyle. Respite stays may last a couple of weeks, a month or longer, including after a hospital stay or when caregivers are unavailable.

Cardiac care includes cardiopulmonary rehabilitation for COPD and congestive heart failure, support during recovery after coronary bypass surgery, and monitoring for arrhythmia management and heart-failure treatment. Pulmonary rehabilitation is supported by nursing and rehabilitation staff; respiratory therapists manage conditions including COPD, pneumonia, bronchitis and post-acute respiratory failure, and provide education for self-management and lifestyle changes.

Orthopedic rehabilitation supports recovery after surgery or a hospital stay for fractures, joint surgery, knee or hip replacement, and degenerative joint disease, with goals of restoring strength, mobility and independence. Stroke rehabilitation is led by staff experienced in post-stroke recovery; personalized plans aim to improve function, regain abilities, minimize complications and support recovery.

Person-centered neurological care is available for progressive conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and ALS, including for residents with complex care needs. Diabetes management includes education and support with testing and monitoring, including when someone is away from or transferring out of Hathaway Manor.

Wound care includes treatment, monitoring healing progress and adjusting care as needed. Hospice and palliative care are provided in residents’ living setting through hospice partners, with coordination of specialized equipment and medications, complementary therapies and support for loved ones.

Rooms are fully furnished and available as private or semi-private accommodations.

Room amenities include flat-screen TVs with free DIRECTV®, free telephone service and Wi-Fi, and individual controls for heating and air conditioning.

The facility has a beauty/barber shop and three rehabilitation gyms, with gym services available seven days a week.

The New Bedford location is near the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and close to Interstate 195 and Route 140.

Hathaway Manor serves families from New Bedford and nearby Fairhaven, Wareham, Acushnet, Dartmouth and Fall River.
