Ashton Medical Lodge

Long-term nursing care is intended for people with chronic medical conditions who need continuous skilled nursing. The clinical team works together on each resident’s care plan.

Short-term rehabilitation includes physical and occupational therapy, as well as speech therapy for speaking and language difficulties.

A wound care nurse tends to residents’ wounds. IV therapy is available in both short- and long-term care.

For residents with dementia, the Music and Memory Group provides exercises and a personal iPod with a playlist of favorite songs. The Memories in the Making program encourages residents with Alzheimer’s to paint pictures from their memories.

Diabetes management and education are available. The rehabilitation services also include hydrocollator heat packs and cryotherapy using cold compresses.

The community offers spacious suites, personal refrigerators and adjustable therapeutic beds. The long-term-care page says each room has an adjustable therapeutic bed.

Residents receive three meals a day, with drinks, fruit and snacks. Dinner offers three choices, and the dining service works with families on special diets. A soup bar and soft-serve ice cream machine are also available.

Dining areas serve both short- and long-term guests. There is a private space for personal visits and special occasions, and short-term guests have a private dining room.

A Life Enrichment Coordinator and Wellness Assistant support residents. They usually have four to six planned activities daily, such as interactive cooking classes, music sessions, church services and aromatherapy.

Physical wellness activities include Body Works Exercise, Sport Fitness, Music & Movement and Sensory Shape-Up.

Social and intellectual activities include Life Story Social, entertainment, celebrations, Mind Works, Wellness University and Health Education.

Wi-Fi and phone service, personal laundry, a barber shop and beauty salon are listed among the amenities. Residents also have access to a cable TV and a putting green in the courtyard.
