Care & support
Each nursing unit provides both short-term and long-term care.
Skilled Nursing Care (SNF) is a medical level of care requiring 24-hour skilled care, such as nursing monitoring or physical or occupational therapy.
Intermediate Care (ICF) is a medical level of care requiring intermittent nursing care, also known as custodial care.
In-house services include help with daily activities and physical, occupational and speech therapy. Care may also include intravenous and tracheostomy care, medication administration, restorative care, hospice and disease management.
Some residents return home after a short rehabilitation stay following hospitalization; others may need extended care because of chronic illness or disability.

Maluhia has 158 long-term-care beds across four units: 2 Mauka, 2 Makai, 3 Mauka and 4 Makai.
Everyday life
Quarterly family meetings provide an educational setting, with the Administrator and Director of Nursing reporting on current facility issues.
Dining & meals
Residents are generally served breakfast from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and dinner from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. Meal times can be adjusted earlier or later to suit a resident’s preference.
Visitors can reserve a complete meal from the cafeteria by signing up before 9:30 a.m.
Activities & connection
Recreational activities are planned around residents’ past interests, cultural and individual needs, and familiar routines.
Activities take place on weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays. Schedules are available at residents’ bedsides, in day rooms, at the nurses’ station and near elevators.
The Recreational Therapy department hosts spiritual programs weekly and monthly.
Shared spaces & amenities
Two family rooms offer a more private place to gather for a shared activity, meal or family occasion; they can be reserved in advance.
There is no designated chapel, but a quiet space is available for prayer and reflection.

When can family and friends visit?
Maluhia has no set visiting hours. Visits should be at times that are respectful of the resident and their roommate.
