Admission to long-term care goes through a pre-admission clinical and financial assessment by the New Brunswick Department of Social Development.

A Spiritual Care Coordinator on staff meets with residents and families and works with different faith groups, in an ecumenical program.

A Family Advocacy group meets quarterly as a support group for family members and friends of residents, and a Resident Council advocates for residents.

Rooms & living spaces

Each resident room has a hospital bed, nightstand, over-bed table, visitor chair, large armoire and nurse call system, and families are encouraged to bring items such as a favourite chair, quilt, photos or a flat-screen TV.

Hawkins House at 116 Sunset Drive has 31 self-contained studio apartments over three levels with an elevator, and offers two meals a day, weekly housekeeping and laundry, and a call bell system in each apartment.

Independent living apartments for seniors aged 55 and over are available at 91, 95 and 120 Sunset Drive, in one- and two-bedroom units with stove and fridge, security doors with an intercom, on-site laundry and parking.

Dining & meals

A dietitian manages menu planning around residents' tastes, textures, nutritional requirements and dietary restrictions, and visits each resident.

The weekly menu is available in each residential unit, and residents who choose to may get a daily meal from the on-site cafe at their own cost.

Activities & connection

Therapeutic Recreation Coordinators run programs including a narrative program, sensory stimulation therapy, a Snoezelen therapy room, music therapy, an iPod program, intergenerational programs, pet therapy and outings.

Each residential unit has its own monthly activity calendar, posted in resident rooms, on the website and on unit information boards.
